Making a Lateral Move to Day Casebeer
Mario Moore, a seventh year associate at Day Casebeer
who graduated from Harvard Law School in 2001, made a lateral move
to join the firm in 2003. After summering at two large firms and
beginning his career at a large international firm's New York
office, Moore chose to build his career at Day Casebeer instead. When he decided to relocate from New York City to the Bay Area, Moore chose Day Casebeer over other prominent firms with strong IP litigation practices. Here's what he had to say on why he chose Day Casebeer: "I was looking for cutting-edge matters - the cases where you're addressing new legal issues never before litigated. Day Casebeer often works on the most significant matters our clients face." "Progress for an associate at Day Casebeer is measured by your involvement in and contribution to cases that are intensely intellectually stimulating—cases that require you to think outside the box. We are all given amazing opportunities to contribute intellectually, strategically, from the first day we're on the case. At this firm there's no bias, no assumption that someone who's new can't add critical substantive input to the case." "There's a belief at Day Casebeer that associates are here for the long term – the firm doesn't hire a ton of associates, hoping that a couple work out. The approach is to hire the best people for the long term instead." "Day Casebeer's culture is unique. I work with partners and associates with a wide variety of technical, legal, and industry expertise every day. Day Casebeer feels informal, but I'm doing the same intellectually-challenging, high-stakes work that I would at a big firm. Everyone here, staff and attorneys, really care about our effectiveness in getting the job done. I found that very attractive." |
